Subject: RE: Feed Bee Article
Bonjour Monsieur Sal ( Silvano) De Monte,
Thank you for very good questions. I tried to answer them. they are in re ink after your questions.
Would this feed be amenable to being medicated to treat bees for diseases/parasites? Do you know if the researchers are looking into this?
Feedbee contains no pollen, no hive products, no animal products, no chemicals, no soy products, no toxic sugars (Stachyose), and no anti-nutritional factors (protease inhibitors in soy products and Bee-Pro). Feedb! ee is made from natural plant sources. Feedbee is not designed to treat any diseases/parasites/deformities in bees. We are looking into the natural effects of the natural ingredients in the feed, on general strength of bees against diseases/parasites.
How is the feed made to prevent cross-contamination with pesticides, antibiotics, chemicals, heavy metals etc which may become residues in honey? Feedbee is formulated to closely emulate natural diet of honeybees (high quality pollens). If pollen can create cross-contamination with pesticides, antibiotics, chemicals, heavy metals etc which may become residues in honey (there scientific evidence available), still we say Feedbee has none of the said undesirable effects on bees body or their production.
Are ingredients tested first? All the ingredients were chosen based on their taste, palatability, nutriti! onal values, biological values and effects on bees body and products, being free from toxins/chemicals(soy, milk powder, Bee-Pro), anti-nutritional factors (soy, Bee-Pro), and period of feed adaptability by bees. All the ingredients are either human food grades or feed grades, and meet the standards of North American human and animal feed.
How is feed treated/packed/stored to prevent deterioration over time? Feedbee is in dry form and is packed in bags with inner plastic sheets. The shelf life of the feed is even longer than any dried grains/seeds used for human food, because all the ingredients in the feed are either toasted or cooked before being dried.
Feedbee is the result of almost 12 years research. The experience of more than 10 years in animal n! utrition and feed industry is another back bone to Feedbee. Feedbee may be tested in any labs (as it's been tested in US) for any undesirable materials/elements for human and bees.
I hope, this answers your questions.
We are proud that Feedbee is a CANADIAN feed and for the first time, it's been formulated scientifically, based on modern science and technology of animal and insect nutrition, feed & feeding, and apiculture. It is not a shot in the dark, as until now so many feed stuffs have been used which had no effect on bees but also had detrimental effect on them. Those feed stuffs are: Soy products, milk powder, egg powder, all kinds of yeasts etc and products like Bee-Pro (with no inspection and no scientific research). Feedbee has been tested independently by Dr. Pamela Gregory (USDA, Weslaco, TX) on hemolymph protein, protein consumption, survivability, weight gain, and toxicity on European and Africanized honeybees. The results were excellent in comparison with natural pollen, old pollen, and Bee-Pro. The results w! ere presented at Texas beekeeping association meeting (2005), and American Honey Producers Association Convention (2006). Feedbee was tested by Australian Apiary Inspection...and the result will be published in future in one of known journals/magazines very soon.
